Hi, I'm
Mary Carter.
I inherited my
love
of jewelry from my mother and grandmother. Nothing stops my mother in her
tracks faster than the warm glow of
amber
and my grandmother's legacy to me consisted of 2 shirt boxes filled with
jewelry
collected throughout her life, including some handed down from her mother.
When I finished my first
necklace in a community
services class, it felt so natural that I wondered why I hadn't started
creating jewelry sooner!
It's in my jewelry making that I can let loose and show my
colorful
side. I start with beads
that inspire me. Then I sit on my living room floor to play with colors and
shapes, combining and rearranging until something symmetrical and unique and
beautiful
emerges. I've always been obsessed with pattern and I love the challenge of
balancing and bringing order out of the chaos of a mix of beads and other
materials.
You may be
wondering where the name Bear Chick came from. In our younger, mushier
days, my husband, Dean,
used to call me Pooh Bear, which devolved into Bear. Neither of us
remembers where the Chick came from--guess it was just one of those
organic
things. When it came time to name my company, I wracked my brain for days
trying to come up with something memorable but decidedly
ME.
Then Bear Chick
popped into my head and the more I lived with it the more I liked it. It
felt comfortable...and ME.

Thanks
for visiting!
Come
back soon!
